A consortium consisting of Navantia and Indra has been contracted by Indonesian shipbuilder PT PAL to jointly upgrade the Indonesian Navy's Fatahillah-class KRI-362 Malahayati corvette.
The $18m contract, which is part of the mid-life modernisation (MLM) programme being undertaken by PT PAL, will see the two companies partner to equip the Indonesian navy with the latest electronic technology used by the Spanish Navy.
The consortium has created a business model to draw the expertise of both the companies to carry out the work under the contract.
Modernisation effort will include the upgrading of the corvette’s combat system with renovated sensors and fire control systems and integrate the upgraded systems through Navantia’s modern combat management system.
Indra will provide its ESM RIGEL electronic defence system, which provides a platform with self-protection by jamming and deception countermeasure techniques against either single or multiple threats.
Navantia will contribute its DORNA fire control platform, which will offer a range of capabilities such as anti-air warfare, surface, and coastal capabilities, besides surveillance, training and maintenance features, as well as other secondary features such as navigation support, warning rounds.
The companies are also collaborating to develop the Spanish Navy's future F110 frigate.
In a separate development, Navantia has contracted OSI Maritime Systems to deliver two integrated bridge systems (IBS) for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) programme.
