Meggitt Training Systems has been awarded a $7.19m delivery contract by the US Marine Corps (USMC) Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS) to deliver indoor simulated marksmanship trainers (ISMT) systems.
The ISMT programme is a five-year indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which will see development of system and weapon simulator, as well as deployment and support of more than 670 systems at USMC facilities at domestically and worldwide.
Aligned with the USMC’s current training requirements, the ISMT system offers virtual small arms training for marksmanship, collective and judgmental scenarios.
Meggitt Training Systems virtual systems vice-president Larry Raines said: "Collective is used with teams in a combined environment. Judgmental hones a trainee’s response within their rules of engagement. Marksmanship develops the fundamentals of proper weapon training, including correct stance, butt pressure, cant, sighting, and more.
"Utilising simulation in these three training arenas minimises range time and ammunition costs; allows for immediate, corrective action in a controlled setting; and provides realistic training with real duty weapons, regardless of weather, time of day or environmental conditions."
The latest order, which forms part of the overall $32.7m contract awarded by the MARCORSYSCOM PM TRASYS, includes delivery of virtual simulation systems and Meggitt’s patented BlueFire wireless weapons.
The weapons to be delivered will be incorporated aboard naval vessels.
ISMT programme manager Kathleen Wilson said: "Meggitt’s small arms trainer was developed as an open architecture system, allowing third party plug-and-play aspects to work in conjunction with the ISMT system. This user-friendly training solution provides a rapid readiness for instructors, and allows Marines to complete mandatory courses in a quick, efficient manner."
