The company will supply rudder blades, rudder stocks and sleeves / liners for rudder stock, anchors and chain and deck equipment for the Royal Navy’s three new OPVs.
Fendercare Marine defence project sales manager Brett Ward said: "The selection of Fendercare Marine by BAE Systems to support them in this important programme for the Royal Navy further underlines the industry’s recognition in our abilities to provide a quality and value-for-money service and approach to defence contracts."
BAE Systems started production of the new OPVs at its facility in Govan, Glasgow, UK, in October, as part of a £348m contract signed in the same year with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year and the first vessel is expected to be delivered to the Royal Navy in 2017.
The new ships will feature a modified flight deck that is capable of operating the latest Merlin helicopters, larger stores and can accommodate more troops.
At 90m-long and 13m-wide, the vessels will be designed to meet navy’s requirements in support of the UK’s interests worldwide.
The OPVs will support a range of economic exclusion zone management missions, including maritime security, border control, routine patrols, anti-smuggling, counter-terrorism, counter-piracy and fishery protection, as well as effective disaster relief.
Powered by two diesel engines rated at 7,350kW each, they have a displacement capacity of 2,000t.
Fendercare has previously worked with BAE on the Amazonas-class vessels for the Brazilian Navy.
