Comtech EF Data Corp, a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications, has received a $6.4m contract award extension from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) to implement an adaptive coding capability for advanced time division multiple access (TDMA) interface processor (ATIP) terminals.

The initial agreement was signed in April 2013 and included the delivery of an ATIP Layer-2 Ethernet bridging device to replace the navy’s legacy TDMA interface processor.

As part of that contract, the company is providing improvements to the advanced extremely high frequency system through dynamic bandwidth management, support for higher XRD date rates and increased throughput capacity.

"We are proud to continue to support and enhance the capabilities of the navy’s communications system."

The latest award delivers adaptive coding capability to the terminals, which was a planned performance improvement requirement under the existing ATIP contract.

Comtech Telecommunications president and CEO Dr Stanton Sloane said: "This award was made possible by our successful completion of the initial ATIP development effort, which is now under contract for its first year of production.

"We are proud to continue to support and enhance the capabilities of the navy’s communications system."

The extension programme will make changes in the physical environment to enhance overall capacity and throughput.

It will help the system take advantage of unused system capacity and throughput under non-challenged environments, Comtech said.

As part of the previous contract, Comtech was also responsible for development and engineering services, including software design and development, as well as test and evaluation support and sustainment support on a cost-plus basis.
