The US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has contracted AAR to provide fleet logistics support, including commercial depot support and site support, for the C-40A Clipper aircraft.

Under the $105m fixed-price contract, the company will perform heavy maintenance work on the C-40A aircraft over the next five years.

Work will be performed at AAR’s maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at the Oklahoma City airport, with logistics being supported at five naval air stations.

“We will be partnering with United AirLines under their Part 121 certificate for technical parts and quality oversight.”

AAR will also use its landing gear repair facility in Miami and component repair shop in New York to support the navy fleet.

The company has contracted with Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions to offer engine repair work.

Government and Defence Programmes senior vice-president Don Wetekam said: "AAR is a strong fit for this contract because we can utilise our broad range of services and facilities across the country to maintain the airframes from tip to tail.

"And we will be partnering with United Airlines under their Part 121 certificate for technical parts and quality oversight."

The C-40A Clipper aircraft, a variant of the Boeing 737-700 commercial airliner, is the newest commercial derivative medium lift aircraft leveraged during the Navy Unique Fleet Essential Airlift missions.

It has an aluminium alloy fail-safe fuselage and wing structure, and is fitted with a hydraulically retractable tricycle-type landing gear with Boeing shock absorbers and Honeywell or Goodrich brakes.

The aircraft is propelled by two podded engines, CFM International CFM56-7B24 and is powered by Honeywell 131-9B auxiliary power unit with engine air start capability.
