Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine) announced the interim delivery and acceptance ceremony for the Royal Oman Navy's (RNO) third patrol vessel (PV), RNOV Sadh.

The company also held the naming ceremony for RNO's fourth PV, RNOV Khassab.

Oman Sultanate's Ministry of Defense awarded ST Engineering a $699.4m contract in April 2012 to construct and design the four Al-Ofouq-class of PVs.

The vessels are set to replace Sultanate's current four Seeb-class PVs commissioned in the early 1980s.

"The vessels will be equipped with a modern weapon and combat management system and will be suitable for maritime and homeland security missions."

Based on ST Marine's Fearless-class patrol vessels, which are used by the Republic of Singapore Navy, each 246ft-long Al-Ofouq-class vessel will provide a maximum cruise speed of more than 23mph, while offering a 1,000m range at 17mph.

In addition, the vessels will be equipped with a modern weapon and combat management system and will be suitable for maritime and homeland security missions such as undertaking extended surveillance patrols of the Sultanate's Exclusive Economic Zone.

The new vessels will also feature the Tacticos combat management system (CMS), the Variant surveillance radar and STIR 1.2 EO Mk2 radar E/O tracking system, as well as the ESM system.

The vessels are expected to keep sea lanes safe to facilitate international trade and promote economic growth for both the countries.

ST Marine president NG Sing Chan said: "As the Al-Ofouq programme draws to a close with the fourth vessel scheduled to leave Singapore in May 2016, ST Marine will not rest on our laurel but will continue to relentlessly keep our pace to ensure a smooth finish for this wonderful programme."

Earlier in September, ST Marine delivered the second of the four Al-Ofouq-class PVs, RNOV Shinas, to the RNO.
