SAIC selects Elbit CHDTS for US Navy’s MH-60S Seahawk test aircraft

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has contracted Elbit Systems of America to install, integrate and support flight evaluations of its colour helmet display and tracking system (CHDTS) on the US Navy’s MH-60S Seahawk test aircraft.

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has contracted Elbit Systems of America to install, integrate and support flight evaluations of its colour helmet display and tracking system (CHDTS) on the US Navy's MH-60S Seahawk test aircraft.

The current programme is part of US Navy's MH-60 Sierra's improved targeting system for the Seahawks' armed helicopter weapon kits.

Elbit Systems of America president and CEO Raanan Horowitz said: "The CHDTS will provide the pilots with improved situational awareness through enhanced optics and symbology displayed directly on their HMDs, allowing the pilots to keep their eyes up and out."

The CHDTS is designed to deliver both night and day capability to the pilots to enable them to clearly see colour flight instrument symbols on their helmet-mounted display (HMD) modules.

"The CHDTS will provide the pilots with improved situational awareness through enhanced optics and symbology displayed directly on their HMDs."

In addition, the line-of-sight tracking system helps the pilots to interact with the flight navigation system and also enhances pilot and co-pilot situational awareness.

The system can also be used to control pilot or co-pilot slewable sensor systems, Elbit Systems said.

It also offers a continuously calculated weapon impact symbol for the pilot display, helping to increase system accuracy in enagaging installed weapon systems.

Elbit Systems of America was recently contracted by the US Marine Corps (USMC) to deliver common laser range finder-integrated capability (CLRF-IC).

Set to replace the USMC's currently fielded equipment, Elbit's CLRF-IC is a lightweight targeting device that is designed to incorporate day and night imaging and high-accuracy laser based range finding.
