Nato has successfully completed its anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise, Dynamic Mongoose, off the west coast of Norway, with the support of ten allied nations alongside partner nation Sweden.

The exercise was conducted by Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) through Nato Submarine Command (COMSUBNATO) in collaboration with the Norwegian Navy.

The drill aimed to provide all participants with complex and challenging warfare training to enhance their interoperability and proficiency in anti-submarine warfare, as well as anti-surface warfare skills.

During the exercise, surface ships were divided into multiple task units and assigned to track a submarine that was deployed as part of the training programme.

COMSUBNATO assistant chief of staff captain Iain Breckenridge said: "This exercise tested our forces' abilities in a highly challenging operational environment, with equally challenging weather conditions.

"This exercise tested our forces' abilities in a highly challenging operational environment, with equally challenging weather conditions."

"It confirms the resolve of Nato maritime forces to keep their warfare skills at the highest level. We will share the lessons we have learned with all Allied navies to ensure they benefit fully in reinforcing their ability to address threats to Alliance security."

The exercise also saw units participating in advanced warfare techniques in detection and classification, surface engagement, air engagement, and tactical coordination.

The task units deployed organic air assets, helicopters, and fixed-wing maritime patrol aircraft to track the submarine.

The exercise involved four submarines from Germany, Norway, Sweden, and the US, alongside 13 surface ships from Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, as well as the UK and the US.
