Safran Helicopter Engines has been contracted by the Nato Helicopter Management Agency (NAHEMA) to support the RTM322-powered European NH90 helicopter fleet.
Under the ten-year Global Support Package (GSP) contract, Safran will support 130 rotorcraft and is expected to generate a turnover of €180m.
The contract covers the NH90 operated by the French Navy and French Army Light Aviation (ALAT), Belgian Army and Navy and the Royal Netherlands Armed Forces.
Safran Helicopter engines executive vice-president support and services Franck Saudo said: "This contract marks a major new milestone in our partnership with NAHEMA and French, Belgium and Dutch armed forces.
“We will deliver world-class services to guarantee their engine availability; thus demonstrating that the GSP model is particularly well-suited to supporting the engine fleets of modern air forces."
The agreement meets the requirement for optimum availability of engines during search-and-rescue and military operations conducted by the nations, both at home or while on deployment.
The GSP aims at ensuring turboshaft availability at a fixed price per engine flying hour during the contract period, while enabling military operators to focus on their core activities.
NAHEMA general manager Fortunato di Marzio said: "This GSP will allow the French, the Belgian and the Dutch NH90 operators to benefit from a very effective engine-support for their RTM322 engines, especially during their operational tasks.”
Developed by Europe’s NHIndustries partnership (Airbus Helicopters, Agusta Westland, and Fokker), the NH90 helicopter is a multi-role aircraft designed to suit Nato’s requirement for a modern medium-sized multi-role military helicopter to be deployed into both land and maritime operations.
The twin-engine aircraft is equipped with a full glass cockpit, a fly-by-wire control system with four-axis autopilot and advanced mission flight aids, along with on-board monitoring and diagnostics systems.
