General Dynamics Electric Boat has secured a contract modification from the US Navy to carry out reactor-plant planning yard services for nuclear submarines.
Under the latest $24.1m contract, the company is also responsible for support-yard services for moored training ships.
Electric Boat is responsible for work on all facets of the submarine life cycle, from concept formulation and design to construction, maintenance and modernisation, and eventually inactivation and disposal.
The contract, which was initially awarded in 2011, has a potential cumulative value of $121.2m if all options are exercised and funded.
In September, Electric Boat received a $321.7m contract option from the US Navy to deliver planning yard work, engineering, and technical support for nuclear submarines.
As part of this development, Electric Boat will be responsible for providing design, engineering, material and logistics support, as well as research and development activities for active US submarines and submersibles.
In addition, the company will offer information services, planning, scheduling and technical support for submarine maintenance and modernisation activities.
Training, facilities, and cost-reduction support will also be covered under the contract.
