The US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89) has successfully conducted transit through the Taiwan Strait.
This is the 12th warship the US Navy to sail through the Taiwan Strait this year and it performed it in accordance with international law.

USS Mustin is forward deployed to the US 7th Fleet area of operations.
The transit demonstrates the commitment of the US military towards a ‘free and open Indo-Pacific’.
In a statement, the US Navy said the country’s “military will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows”.
The US Navy aircraft carriers regularly conduct dual carrier strike group operations in the Western Pacific including the South China Sea, East China Sea and Philippine Sea.

By GlobalDataIn June this year, USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) strike groups carried out dual carrier flight operations in the Philippine Sea.
Meanwhile, China’s Eastern Theatre Command said its air and naval forces “tailed and monitored” the US Navy vessel all through the transit. The vessel entered the Taiwan Strait from the north and headed towards south direction.
In addition, a Chinese Navy aircraft carrier group was reported to have sailed through the Taiwan Strait.
The transit was conducted as the carrier group headed on its way to perform routine drills in the South China Sea. According to Reuters, the sail was monitored by Taiwan’s navy and air force.
