The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Group 2 has opened a new EOD operations facility at the US Navy’s Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.
The new building is designed to accommodate EOD Mobile Unit 2, EOD Mobile Unit 12 and EOD Expeditionary Support Unit 2.

It is part of a $39.2m project to support the EOD consolidation initiative to streamline training and consolidate the EOD mobile units.
EOD Group 2 commander captain Josh Jackson said: “This project was first visualised years ago as a way to get our sailors in one place. Today, it is going to provide our force a more centralised location to prepare our warfighters to go down range.”
Comprising both office spaces and platoon spaces, the new operations facility will provide a more centralised location for the EOD.
Both EOD technicians and support personnel can collaborate to accomplish their challenging mission in an improved and more efficient way.

Construction work on the new EOD operations building commenced in 2016.
The US Navy EOD technicians serve as the service’s combat force deployed for countering explosive hazards in any terrain.
The EOD force is responsible for carrying out underwater mine countermeasures, exploitation and attribution of underwater ordnance.
