Air New Zealand Gas Turbines has won a contract to perform maintenance on ten General Electric (GE) LM2500 engines used on the US Navy’s cruiser fleet.
The $17m contract is the fourth agreement between the Air New Zealand division and the US Navy.

The US Navy launched tenders for the first power turbine contract in 2017. Since then, the Air New Zealand unit has been awarded contracts covering 39 engine units.
Air New Zealand chief ground operations officer Carrie Hurihanganui said: “This fourth contract win is a credit to the gas turbines team and further strengthens our more than 20-year relationship with the US Navy. It’s a clear indicator of the calibre of work the team produces.”
The US Navy has so far received seven overhauled units from the company.
A further 13 engine units are currently in work and the remaining nine are on-site and ready for induction.

Air New Zealand Gas Turbines is an authorised service provider for GE. The firm provides overhaul and repair services for LM2500 gas turbines to clients across the world.
The turbines power the US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Independence-variant vessels up to LCS 38.
Each Independence-variant LCS features two LM2500 gas turbines. These turbines are arranged in a combined diesel and gas turbine configuration, with two diesel engines.
