Triumph Group’s operating company Triumph Systems & Support – Mechanical Solutions will support the US Navy Advanced Helicopter Training System (AHTS) programme through the supply of mechanical controls.

As per a recently announced contract, Leonardo Helicopters has to produce 32 TH-73A helicopters, which is a variant of the AW119, for the AHTS programme.

Triumph Systems & Support – Mechanical Solutions has been the incumbent supplier of cockpit and engine controls for Leonardo, providing mechanical controls on the AW119 variant for over two decades.

For the supply mechanical controls of AW119, Triumph intends to work with Leonardo for the AHTS programme in order to cater to the rotary and tiltrotor training requirements of the US Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

The new aircraft will be developed at Leonardo’s FAA-certified Part 21 production line in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while the work for the TH-73A will be performed at the Triumph Systems & Support’s Mechanical Solutions facilities in North Wales, Pennsylvania and Shelbyville, Indiana.

Triumph Mechanical Solutions president Ian Reason said: “As the incumbent supplier of control systems for the AW119, the new work in support of the TH-73A facilitates the organic growth of our business.

“We are thrilled to be able to support Leonardo as they fulfil the production requirements for the US Navy Advanced Helicopter Training System programme and to be a part of the AHTS programme that will provide critical training for pilots in multiple branches of the US Armed Forces.”

In July last year, Triumph Group delivered the first ramp and related door structures for the V-22 Osprey multi-mission tiltrotor aircraft.

As per the contract, Triumph was required to manufacture the ramp and ramp door structures under a renewed statement of work for the V-22 programme.

Under a contract with Boeing Defense, Space & Security, the structures produced at Triumph Aerospace Structures Composites Center of Excellence in Milledgeville, Georgia were delivered to Boeing Philadelphia.
