Lockheed Martin has awarded a contract to Griffon’s wholly owned subsidiary Telephonics to support the US Navy’s MH-60R/S helicopter programmes.

The company will perform support work on AN/APS-153(V) multi-mode maritime surveillance radar (MMR) and communication system control group (CSCG) products.

Telephonics will conduct spares procurement, supply test equipment, and repair or replacement work.

These activities will be carried out on critical components of both the MMR and CSCG products.

Telephonics noted that the AN/APS-153(V) is an advanced radar system that provides enhanced littoral and maritime domain awareness to the flight crews of the MH-60R.

The contract has an initial base period of five years and runs until 2025. It also has an additional two-year option.

It is part of the US Navy’s performance-based logistics (PBL) contract in support of the MH-60R and MH-60S.

The cumulative face value of the contract is $162m, with a ‘current funded backlog’ of $84m.

The Sikorsky Aircraft-developed MH-60R Seahawk multi-mission naval helicopter, also called ‘Romeo’, is the primary anti-submarine warfare anti-surface weapon system.

The US Navy uses the MH-60S helicopters to carry out missions such as vertical replenishment, combat search and rescue, special warfare support, and airborne mine countermeasures.

Telephonics president Kevin McSweeney said: “We are proud to provide our continued support to these vital US Navy programmes.

“We understand the critical mission requirements these aircraft face and stand ready to ensure they are equipped for demanding mission challenges when needed.”

In January last year, Telephonics demonstrated its MOSAIC Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar system on a US Navy MH-60S Seahawk multi-mission helicopter.
