The Republic of Singapore Navy’s (RSN) seventh littoral mission vessel (LMV), Dauntless, has been launched by ST Engineering’s Marine sector at its Benoi Shipyard.
Commenced in 2013, the Singapore Navy’s LMV programme will help replace the service’s existing fleet of Fearless-class patrol vessels.

The Fearless-class ships were also developed and built ST Engineering’s Marine sector in the 1990s.
ST Engineering Marine Sector president Ng Sing Chan said: “We are excited to launch the seventh of eight LMVs that we are designing and building for the RSN.
“We are committed to continue the good progress we have made thus far, and look forward to completing the programme with the last and final LMV.”
The launch of RSN’s Dauntless vessel marks as a significant milestone in the service’s continued transformation to keep the waters of Singapore safe.

More than twice the size of the Fearless-class ships, the LMVs have been designed to offer enhanced sea keeping capabilities that would allow the vessels to operate in higher sea state conditions.
To date, ST Engineering’s Marine sector has delivered five LMVs to the Singapore Navy.
While RSS Independence, RSS Sovereignty and RSS Unity were commissioned last year, LMV Justice and LMV Indomitable are slated to be commissioned later this year.
The sixth RSN vessel LMV Fortitude was launched in March and the keel for the eighth ship was laid in April. Currently, LMV Fortitude is undergoing sea trials.
