Serco Asia Pacific has won a contract to provide in-port services across Australia for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) under the Defence Marine Support Services (DMSS) Program Service Package 1.

As part of the initial six-year contract, Serco will deliver key marine support services in naval and non-naval ports across Australia.

The contractual work, valued at an estimated $88.4m (A$120m), also includes crewing, maintenance, and asset base sustainment.

According to Serco, the contract has options for two additional five-year extensions, with the potential value to Serco over the complete 16 years of the contract.

General harbour services, work force and stores transfers, Bunker Barge Operation, security patrols, as well as maintenance support services and training, will also be delivered as part of the new contract.

The contract will take effect from 1 October.

Serco Royal Australian Naval Reserve (RANR) Defence managing director Clint Thomas said: “Serco has successfully provided in-port services to the Royal Australian Navy across Australia as part of its Fleet Marine Services Contract (FMSC) for the past 24 years and I am delighted that this support will continue.

“This new contract recognises the strong partnership we have built with Navy over the years and Serco’s delivery of fully integrated defence service solutions.

“We look forward to working alongside the RAN with our supply network and our Australian Industry partners into the future.”

In November 2019, the US Navy’s Guided Missile Frigate FFG(X) Program Executive Office (PEO) for Unmanned and Small Combatants contracted Serco to design and build the navy’s next multi-mission small-surface combatant.
