US Navy Secretary (SECNAV) Kenneth Braithwaite has revealed the names of five future naval vessels along with their hull numbers.

The five vessel types are Constellation-class frigate, Virginia-class attack submarine, San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, Navajo-class towing, salvage, and rescue ship, and an Expeditionary Sea Base.

The future Constellation-class guided-missile frigate will be named as Chesapeake (FFG 64).

It is in honour of the first USS Chesapeake sailing ship that served against the Barbary Pirates in early 1800.

USS Chesapeake (FFG 64) will be one of the first six navy frigates approved by the Naval Act of 1794.

Constellation (FFG 62) and Congress (FFG 63) are the names of the first two frigates in this class that were revealed last year.

The US Navy’s future Virginia-class attack submarine will carry the name Silversides with SSN 807 as hull number.

The future USS Silversides (SSN 807) will be the third vessel to honour the name.

The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, the future USS Pittsburgh (LPD 31), will become the fifth ship to bear the name.

Additionally, the future Navajo-class towing, salvage, and rescue ship, USNS Lenni Lenape (T-ATS 9), will honour the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania and will be the first to carry the name of the tribe.

Furthermore, the US Navy’s future Expeditionary Sea Base USS Robert E. Simanek (ESB 7) will honour Marine Corps Medal of Honor recipient Private First Class Robert Ernest Simanek.

Braithwaite said: “We must always look to our wake to help chart our future course. Together, these future ships will strengthen our navy and carry on our sacred mission to secure the sea lanes, stand by our allies, and protect our nation against all adversaries.”

Moreover, SECNAV also revealed the names of those individuals who have been selected as sponsors for the ships.
