Northrop Grumman has awarded a contract to Saab to support the US Marine Corps (USMC) AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR).

The contract, valued at $36.7m, will see Saab provide radar system components and subsystems.

The award is for the full rate production phase of the G/ATOR programme.

Saab will deliver the components between this and next year. Work under the order will be carried out from its Syracuse facility in New York.

In December last year, Saab secured an initial contract from Northrop Grumman to supply subsystems for USMC’s G/ATOR.

The five-year contract also includes options for the delivery of additional assemblies and associated spares.

Northrop Grumman is the principal contractor for the delivery of AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR systems to the USMC.

In February, the USMC awarded a contract to Northrop Grumman for two additional AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR systems.

The AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR is a long-range multi-mission air surveillance system designed to provide complete air and missile defence surveillance.

It can detect, identify and track airborne threats.

Saab US president and CEO Erik Smith said: “Through Saab’s strong partnership with Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, we continue to advance the G/ATOR programme in support of the US Marine Corps.

“Each delivery of the G/ATOR system improves the capability and effectiveness of our Armed Forces and represents Saab’s enduring commitment to advancing the safety and security of our US stakeholders.”
