RUAG Australia has won a contract from the US Navy for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of some components of the F/A-18 Hornet fleet.

The contract is the first that has been awarded under the AUSMIN Defence Acquisition Committee (ADAC) which is a collaboration between the Australian and US Departments of Defence.

With the award of the contract, RUAG will be responsible for the repair of the Navy Supply (NAVSUP) in the APAC Region under the programme.

RUAG Australia general manager Terry Miles said: “RUAG Australia appreciates the trust that the US Navy has placed in their ability to support their regional activities.

“RUAG’s MRO capabilities and track record of success with the Royal Australian Airforce (RAAF), will form the basis of a partnership with the US Navy to support the fleet readiness of the F/A-18 fleet in APAC and other Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers moving forward.”

The Royal Australian Airforce F/A-18 fleet and other platforms were supported by RUAG Australia since the 1980s.

RUAG MRO International Aviation International senior vice-president Stephan Jezler added: “We are pleased and proud to be recognised as an essential contributor to defence industry capability.

“We are looking forward to applying our technical expertise to other fleets in the APAC region and globally. It confirms our good reputation and our vast experience and know-how on the life-cycle support of F/A-18 fleets.”

The ADAC is a bilateral forum formed for the cooperation between the militaries of the US and Australia to enable closer defence and industry collaboration for the acquisition, logistics and follow-on support of defence equipment.

In December last year, RUAG MRO International completed MRO work on the Dornier 228-212 special mission aircraft operated by the Bangladesh Navy.
