The British Royal Navy’s Type 23 Duke-class frigate, HMS Montrose, has been redeployed into front-line service with the navy fleet during a rededication ceremony at HM Naval Base Devonport.
The rededication event marks the end of an extensive refurbishment period, which was carried out on the ship in the Devonport naval base.

Naval Staff (Ships) assistant chief and reviewing officer rear admiral Chris Gardner said: “It is a great honour and privilege to be here today representing the First Sea Lord to welcome Montrose back into the fleet.”
The overhaul saw HMS Montrose undergo a series of major upgrades and enhancements, which were primarily carried out on the vessel’s latest missile system, the Sea Ceptor surface-to-air missile.
The frigate’s command system and marine engineering plant were also refurbished during the refit period.
Royal Navy HMS Montrose commanding officer commander Conor O’Neil said: “After many months of hard work from both the ship’s company and our industrial partners, we are all very proud to show off HMS Montrose at her rededication to our chain of command, affiliates and families.”

Its crew members and their equipment are set to undergo an extensive series of trials as part of the programme, which is to be conducted before the vessel’s scheduled recommencement of naval operations later next year.
The Royal Navy’s first HMS Montrose was commissioned on 14 December 1919.
The current HMS Montrose was commissioned into the navy in 1994 and has since sailed on operations worldwide during her 23 years of service.
