The UK Royal Navy is set to transform an existing industrial site in Wales into the future headquarters for its lead Royal Naval Reserve unit HMS Cambria.

South Wales director Matthew Kennerley, HMS Cambria commanding officer commander Steve Fry, Reserve Forces and Cadets’ Association chairman captain Brian Thorne, and Commander Maritime Reserves commodore Martin Quinn collaborated to study plans for the new location.

Located at Roath Dock in Cardiff Bay, the £11m headquarters will replace the existing Cambria building at Penarth and serve as the centre for the maritime reservists across the region.

“The new facility is expected to cater to the needs of the Royal Navy and Reserve Forces over the next 50 years under a long-term lease in agreement with Associated British Ports.”

Quinn said: “The Royal Navy is fully committed to having a presence in Wales and today marks a significant milestone in ensuring this commitment is realised.

Once built, the latest facility will provide new and advanced training and classroom suites, accommodation, and administrative services.
