The US Marine Corps (USMC) has awarded a new delivery order valued at more than $33m to Oshkosh Defense for the delivery of additional 54 P-19R aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicles.
Oshkosh expects to supply the first P-19Rs in June this year, with the delivery of the entire 164 P-19R vehicles currently slated to take place gradually through 2019.
Oshkosh Defense Army and Marine Corps Programmes vice-president and general manager Pat Williams said: “The P-19R vehicle is a reliable, state-of-the-art expeditionary vehicle built to help firefighting crews effectively respond and carry out the mission, wherever it may be.
“It is critical that Marines have the ability to respond quickly to situations regardless of off-road or on-road environments, and the Oshkosh P-19R delivers the next-generation capability needed to accomplish just that.”
The P-19R ARFF vehicles equipped with the Oshkosh TAK-4 independent suspension system have attained ‘gold standard’ performance in off-road environments.
TAK-4 technology offers 16in of independent wheel travel to provide greater all-terrain performance for off-runway emergencies and has been used on more than 20,000 military-class vehicles to date.
The system also offers the payload capacity required to carry 1,000 gallons of water, 130 gallons of foam agent, and 500lb of Halotron auxiliary firefighting agent. Its roof and bumper turrets can jointly discharge up to 750 gallons per minute.
The P-19Rs feature the Oshkosh Command Zone integrated control and diagnostics system, which is fully automated and provides access to major vehicle information, along with enabling Marines to repair and troubleshoot vehicles, view real-time performance data and remotely access diagnostics information.
In addition, they are also integrated with advanced Striker firefighting systems, which have been provided by Oshkosh Airport Products.
