UK-based Kongsberg Maritime camera systems group has supplied a new large network Internet Protocol (IP) closed-circuit television (CCTV) system to be deployed aboard the Royal Canadian Navy's (RCN) new auxiliary naval replenishment ship.

The IP CCTV system was delivered to Lévis, Québec-based shipyard Chantier Davie Canada as part of RCN’s Project Resolve.

Project Resolve has been devised in order to develop an interim fleet supply vessel for the RCN.

The project has already seen the purchase of a commercial container vessel known as MS Asterix, which is being converted into an auxiliary oiler replenishment ship to be chartered by the Canadian Navy. MS Asterix's conversion is estimated to be completed this year.

The IP CCTV system is a complete solution that integrates marine cameras, video management software (VMS), ruggedised central control rack server / storage and operator workstations, in addition to distributed power over ethernet (PoE) network switches and an uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

Kongsberg's solution has been developed to offer a combination of high-definition performance, flexible operation and easy deployment.

The marine camera solution has been designed for use in commercial vessels, naval surface ships, oil and gas installations and renewable energy platforms.

It comprises 24 units of marine grade IP PoE fixed cameras that provide high definition (HD) images across the length of the vessel.

"The solution comprises 24 units of marine grade IP PoE fixed cameras that provide high definition (HD) images across the length of the vessel."

The solution also includes ten units of IP stainless steel pan and tilt and zoom (PTZ) camera stations, as well as four marine grade IP PTZ Dome cameras equipped with 18x optical zoom.

The VMS solution ensures control over the surveillance system, providing end users with the situational awareness required to offer an immediate response.

It also provides operators with the flexibility to optimise post-deployment, while benefitting from the latest technologies and enhancing operator collaboration.

The company is set to provide engineering support to carry out on-board commissioning of the CCTV system on the RCN vessel once all installation procedures are completed.
