Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has successfully completed the deployment of its Advanced Lightweight Phased Array (ALPHA) ELM-2258 radar system on the Israeli Navy's Saar 4.5 missile ship.

The ALPHA ELM-2258 radar system forms a major part of the missile ships’ combat systems and is set to be assessed during the vessel's operational sea trials.

IAI's lightweight radar system is based on full digital active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, which has been provided by the company and its subsidiary ELTA Systems.

The navy is expected to receive two more ALPHA radars, which would increase the total number of radar systems deployed on the navy's missile vessels to 11.

The ALPHA system is a rotating AESA radar capable of generating a large number of simultaneous beams for maritime and aerial targets, in addition to providing a high-quality view of the surroundings even in the most extreme marine environments.
