BAE Systems has secured a new contract worth roughly $76m to help design and develop important communications and electronic systems for the US Navy.

The contract is set to run for a 22-month period and will require the company to provide rapid design, development, fabrication, customisation and lifecycle maintenance for the US Naval Warfare Centre Aircraft Division's (NAWCAD) new and existing communication and electronic platforms.

BAE Systems Intelligence and Security sector acting president Mark Keeler said: “We perform expert, integrated engineering and sustainment support services that meet the development demands of the navy.”

BAE Systems will provide support for the testing, assessment, deployment, integration and certification of mission equipment and systems for NAWCAD’s special communications mission solutions division as part of the project.

The mission equipment has been designed and developed by NAWCAD to enable customers to communicate securely and effectively.

It is largely used by the US Navy, the US Army, the US Air Force (USAF), Joint Special Operations Forces and other US Department of Defense (DoD) and federal government agencies.

BAE Systems previously received a $34m contract to provide a wide range of technical services for NAWCAD’s communications and electronics platforms in May last year.

The two-year deal will see the company be responsible for providing logistics management, planning and integration support, technical publications, configuration management, engineering, training, and hardware tracking for the systems.
