The Peruvian Navy will receive two refurbished Newport class tank landing ships from the US under a possible foreign military sale.

In addition to the refurbishment of the two Newport class tank landing ships, the $82m contract also includes support and training equipment, publications and technical data, as well as logistical support.

The ships acquisition will allow the Peruvian Navy to be interoperable with US forces to conduct maritime interdiction operations, and will also enhance their counter narcotics and counter-terrorism capabilities.

The prime contractors for the ships refurbishment will be VSE Corporation in Virginia and Fairbanks Morse in California.
