France is preparing itself to deliver Mistral-class helicopter carriers to Russia.

“We are ready to receive the contract from 4 November and complete construction in 36 months,” said Pierre Legros, director of French shipbuilder DCNS.

Russia intends to buy one or two French-built Mistrals initially.

Under the terms of the proposed contract, the Russian Mistrals will feature thicker take-off decks and firmer hulls for navigating through ice.

The Mistral-class ship is capable of transporting and deploying 16 helicopters, four landing barges, 70 armoured vehicles including 13 battle tanks, and 450 personnel, according to RIA Novosti.
