French shipbuilder Naval Group has selected iXblue navigation systems for the French Navy’s four future tankers.

As part of the Flotte Logistique (FLOTLOG) project led by the European Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR), iXblue will provide Phins navigation systems and Netans navigation data distribution and computation systems.

iXblue’s navigation systems feature Fibre-Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology and are installed in over 650 surface ships and underwater platforms in the navies and coast guards of 40 nations.

The programme is led on behalf of the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) and its counterpart in Italy, NAVARM.

The contract strengthens the long-term cooperation between Naval Group and iXblue. The partners have supported French and export projects in the past.

iXblue Navigation Division Benoît Kerouanton said: “The BRFs are an essential strategic component of the naval operations of France and its allies. They will enable the French Navy to operate at sea in theatres of operations far from the mainland or from support bases.

“Reliable, resilient and high-performance navigational data is therefore essential to the success of the operations of these ships, on which the autonomy of French Navy combat vessels and aircraft depends.

“Our Phins navigation systems and our Netans navigation data distribution and computation systems satisfy this need for reliability and performance perfectly, whatever the environment, including in GNSS-denied situations.”

Earlier this month, iXblue delivered a cyber security navigation system for the first Defense and Intervention Frigate (FDI) for the French Navy.
