MAN Energy Solutions has received a contract for the delivery of complete propulsion packages for two African Navy OPV-45 offshore patrol vessels.

As per the contract, MAN Energy Solutions will provide two identical shipsets that will include two MAN 16V175D-MM engines (2,960kW at 1900rpm) and gearboxes.

It will also provide Alphatronic 3000 propulsion control systems and ALPHA FPP propellers with struts.

MAN Energy Solutions High-Speed sales head Ben Andres said: “The MAN 175D type is ideally suited to demanding naval applications and this is the latest in a series of orders we have won globally.

“The engine’s technical and economical credentials stand it in good stead, while its compactness, shock capability, and best-in-class fuel-oil consumption are always key criteria for customers.

“Delivering complete propulsion packages to these two vessels also meets our ambition to increasingly become a supplier of complete solutions.

“I am delighted to partner with Israel Shipyards in the important high-speed naval segment and look forward to building up our relationship in the future.”

Israel Shipyards in Haifa is currently constructing the new vessels for the undisclosed African navy.

The vessels, which are 45.7m-long, are designed to carry out different missions, such as protection against the rising piracy threat in the region.

The OPV-45 provides a displacement of around 300t and will be able to operate at speeds of over 24k. They will also have a maximum range of more than 3,500 nautical miles.

In February last year, MAN Energy Solutions secured a contract to supply IMO Tier III-compliant engines to power four 24m ASD tugs being built for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).
