Lockheed Martin has awarded a contract to Rossell Techsys to support the MH-60R multi-role helicopters destined for the Indian Navy.

The contract will see Rossell Techsys perform Build to Print (BTP) production of the electrical wire harness and interconnect system (EWIS) for installation on the helicopters.

The parts will be manufactured at the Center of Excellence (COE), established by Rossell for Lockheed Martin platforms.

Rossell Techsys CEO Prabhat Kumar Bhagvandas said: “We are honoured to have been selected to manufacture wire harnesses for the MH-60R, an important equipment for India.

“We are committed to producing high-quality parts on-time from India, furthering India’s growing strength in manufacturing to global standards and contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

Last year, India signed a $2.1bn deal with the US through the foreign military sales (FMS) programme to procure 24 MH-60R multi-role helicopters (MRH).

Lockheed Martin company Sikorsky Aircraft is under contract to manufacture and supply the MRHs.

With the latest contract, Lockheed Martin can obtain offset credits towards the sale of the platform sale.

Sikorsky Maritime and Mission Systems vice-president and general manager Hamid Salim said: “We are excited about the opportunity to partner with Rossell Techsys and confident of their vital capability to deliver high quality cable and harness assemblies in support of the India MRH Program and the Indian Navy.”

The Indian Navy has already received the first three MH-60R all-weather helicopters, which are currently receiving pilot and crew training in the US.

In April this year, the Indian Navy’s first MH-60R helicopter conducted its maiden flight in New York’s Owego.

The fourth-generation MH-60Rs will replace the Sea King helicopters and further bolster the three-dimensional (3D) capabilities of the service.
