Leonardo has secured a contract to provide logistics support and maintenance services for the OTO 76/62 SR weapon systems aboard the French Navy frigates.

The naval gun is installed onboard French Horizon-class Frigate Europee Multi Mission (FREMM) frigates and Fregates de Defense et d’Intervention (FDI)-class frigates.

The OTO 76/62 SR is a medium-calibre naval gun that that can sustain a fire rate of up to 120 strokes a minute. It is in service with over 50 countries worldwide.

The services under the contract will be performed for a period of ten years and are delivered under a framework agreement.

According to the company, the services also mark the extension of an existing contract to maintain the Horizon-class frigates.

Under the agreement, Leonardo will provide new services such as configuration management, spare parts supply, field engineering and documentation updates for a total of 22 OTO 76/62 SR systems.

The company will also deliver a training course to French Navy personnel.

The agreement allows an option for the customer to extend logistics support to include system updates, extra equipment, and other support based on their requirements.

Major overhaul, testing and alignment of 11 systems are the other technical activities, which will be carried out by the Italian Navy Arsenal and the Naval Support and Experimentation Centre in La Spezia, Italy.

The latest contract follows the signing of an agreement by Leonardo with the Danish Navy to support similar weapon systems.

In November 2018, Leonardo was selected to deliver OTO 76/62 Super Rapid naval gun systems for the K130 corvettes of the German Navy.
