iXblue has been contracted to equip the Polish Navy’s Kormoran II class mine countermeasure vessels (MCMV) with its inertial navigation systems (INS).

iXblue partner THESTA will take care of integrating and delivering the INS to naval navigation contractor PGZ Group’s member PGZ Stocznia Wojenna.

The new class of modern MCMVs will enhance maritime safety and security in Polish waters.

They have been developed as part of the country’s naval modernisation programme.

According to iXblue, the vessels will be used to combat naval mine threats in the Polish exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

They will also be deployed by the ‘tactical task forces’ in the regions of Baltic Sea and North Sea.

iXblue navigation solutions are based on Fiber-Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology. These INS systems will provide critical navigation capabilities to the Polish Navy.

The FOG technology includes the company’s inertial navigation systems, as well as Netans navigation data distribution and computation systems, submarines as well as unmanned vehicles in 40 national navies and coast guards.

Last month, IXblue was selected to supply the forefront sonars and navigation system for 12 MCMVs of the Belgian and Dutch navies.
