US-based Physical Sciences’ subsidiary InstantEye Robotics has secured a contract to deliver its latest Mk-3 GEN5-D1 small unmanned aerial systems (sUASs) to the US Marine Corps (USMC).

The contract has been awarded by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in support of PMA-263, the US Navy and Marine Corps small tactical unmanned aircraft systems Program Office.

Under the agreement, InstantEye Robotics will be responsible for fielding 32 units of the company’s Mk-3 GEN5-D1 drone systems.

DLA is carrying out procurement of the new autonomous aerial systems in order to address the USMC’s urgent needs request for field user evaluation.

InstantEye Robotics vice-president Tom Vaneck said: “We are very excited to start fielding the first system in our new InstantEye Mk-3 line of products, which is designed to further strengthen the security of our SUAS products, as well as expand the capabilities and features of our systems.

“We think the InstantEye Mk-3 GEN5 system will enhance force protection while reducing operational risk.”

“The Marines have been great supporters of the InstantEye systems, and we think the InstantEye Mk-3 GEN5 system will greatly complement their existing portfolio and enhance force protection while reducing operational risk.”

The InstantEye drone platform helps enhance mission scope and offers additional reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition capability to the individual USMC marine or sailor.

Weighing 250g, the InstantEye Mk-3 GEN5-D1 is the smallest system in the company’s family of combat-proven, high-performance, affordable Mk-3 series.

The sUAS is an encrypted, all-digital equipment that provides the users with high-quality real-time video and still imagery.

Due to its small size, the drone system has low audible and visual signatures that enable it to operate undetected in close proximity to targets of interest.

Requiring only a single operator, the GEN5-D1 variant is capable of transforming from a stowed configuration to a fully operational system in approximately one minute and can operate in all weather conditions and locations.
