The Indian Navy is set to participate in the 22nd iteration of Exercise Malabar, which is scheduled to be held in the US from 7-16 June.
This year’s Exercise Malabar will also involve participation from the US Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

The event is slated to be carried out in and off the shore of the US territory of Guam for the first time this year.
It was previously conducted on India’s Eastern Sea Board offshore Chennai and Visakhapatnam in 2017.
The exercise will involve a series of professional interactions during the harbour phase in Guam from 7-10 June, while the sea phase will be held between 11-16 June and is set to include a wide range of at-sea activities.
Exercises currently scheduled for the event’s sea phase include aircraft carrier operations, air defence, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), surface warfare, visit board search and seizure (VBSS), joint manoeuvres and tactical procedures.

By GlobalDataThe Indian Navy assets planned for deployment during the exercise include two indigenously designed and built vessels, namely the multi-purpose stealth frigate INS Sahyadri and ASW corvette INS Kamorta.
The vessels are currently on an overseas deployment to South East Asia and the Western Pacific.
Malabar 2018 will also see the participation of the Indian fleet tanker INS Shakti and long-range maritime patrol aircraft P8I.
The US Navy assets set to participate in the event include the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and its air wing, the two Ticonderoga class cruisers USS Antietam and USS Chancellorsville and two Arleigh Burke class destroyers known as USS Benfold and USS Mustin.
A Los Angeles-class attack submarine and one long-range maritime patrol aircraft, P8A, will also be included the exercise.
The JMSDF will deploy its Hyuga-class helicopter carrier JS Ise with integral helicopters, the Takanami-class destroyer JS Suzunami and Akizuki-class destroyer JS Fuyuzuki, as well as the Japanese maritime patrol aircraft P1 and a submarine.
Exercise Malabar aims to increase the level of mutual understanding, inter-operability and sharing of the best practices between the navies of the three countries.
