The Technical Solutions division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has secured an aircraft carrier support services contract from the US Navy.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract lasts for a period of five years.

It is valued at around $175m and involves maintenance, training and planning support activities.

The US Naval Sea Systems Command is serving as the contracting activity.

Work under the contract will be carried out aboard the American naval aircraft carriers in Virginia’s Norfolk, California’s San Diego, Bremerton and Everett in Washington, as well as Japan.

HII Technical Solutions Defense and Federal Solutions business group president Garry Schwartz said: “We are very pleased the US Navy has entrusted us to support the readiness of one of our nation’s most important power projection platforms.

“For nearly four decades, we’ve partnered with the Navy on this critical programme, and we look forward to continuing to advance our nation’s fleet sustainment for years to come.”

Under the contract, HII will provide services such as engineering, maintenance and operator training, as well as technical and repair services.

These services will be provided in support of the modernisation and repair of shipboard elevators and other associated systems installed within aircraft carriers of the US Navy.

HII is the builder of the US Navy’s Nimitz-class and the next-generation Gerald R Ford-class aircraft carriers.

In February last year, HII signed an agreement to acquire underwater technology company Hydroid from Kongsberg Maritime in a deal valued at $350m.
