Personnel from the participating ships cooperated to conduct a series of exercises in order to ensure an effective response in the event of a future humanitarian or disaster relief situation.

The RAN’s HMAS Anzac participated in MNEK 2018 as part of its South East Asia deployment.

Other Australian Navy assets involved in this year’s Komodo exercise included HMAS Toowoomba and HMAS Success.

All three RAN vessels were deployed for an approximately three-month period, which saw the ships visit several ports with the aim of developing partner capacity and interoperability within the region.

MNEK 2018 initially commenced on 5 May in Lombok, Indonesia.

The exercise involved the dispatch of a multinational naval combined fleet to carry out humanitarian aid in accordance with United Nations (UN) resolutions.
