Patria and CTM have secured contracts to deliver electromagnetic and acoustic modules for a minesweeping solution developed by ECA GROUP.

Under the contracts, CTM will supply its electromagnetic signature generation system (MLM-3100) and Patria will provide its Sonac acoustic signature generation system (ACS-66).

The subsystems were finalised by ECA after an extensive selection process.

ECA will use the systems for its fully integrated hardware and software minesweeping system being developed for the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies.

The two subsystems will be towed with ECA’s INSPECTOR 125-S uncrewed surface vehicle (USV).

The ECA solution will provide improved multi-influence minesweeping capabilities within the Mine Counter Measures replacement (rMCM) programme.

ECA GROUP programme director Jean-Louis Sambarino said: “The collaboration with CTM and Patria will enable ECA GROUP, within the framework of Belgium Naval & Robotics, to supply the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies with state-of-the-art, integrated mine-sweeping capabilities, equipping them to face the challenges of modern naval mines.”

In March, the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies chose ECA GROUP’s INSPECTOR 125-class USV under their ‘Mine Countermeasures’ capability replacement programme.

Patria Sonac ACS makes use of the company’s patented sound source technology, providing acoustic performance over a wide frequency spectrum and completely supporting the ‘Mine Setting’, ‘Target Simulation’, and ‘Mine Jamming’ operation modes.

CTM’s system enables the electromagnetic signatures generation, while Patria’s system allows generation of acoustic signature.

The electromagnetic and acoustic signatures allow the mine fuses to be jammed or activated based on the desired effect for three different modes.

Patria Systems Business Unit president Jonas Geust said: “We are pleased to have been chosen by Belgium Naval & Robotics via ECA GROUP to supply the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies with our solution as a critical component of a naval minesweeping toolbox.

“The development of Patria Sonac ACS is a result of a long-term involvement in the minesweeping and sea mine areas.”
