Raytheon Technologies unit Collins Aerospace has started shipping NP2000 propeller systems to Northrop Grumman for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.

The delivery is part of a second multi-year contract that Collins received in November last year.

This contract involves the supply of NP2000 propeller systems for a total of 39 E-2D aircraft.

Collins’ NP2000 offers eight composite blades and digital Electronic Propeller Control System (EPCS).

This reduces vibration and interior noise inside the cockpit and improves crew comfort and safety while enhancing speed holding and blade synchronisation.

It eliminates the need to remove the entire propeller system and allows E-2D operators to remove and replace individual blades on-wing.

Since 2004, NP2000 has been operational with the US Navy and other international customers on Northrop’s E-2 and C-2 platforms.

It has been in service on Lockheed Martin C-130 variants with the US Navy and US Air Force since 2008.

Collins Aerospace Propeller Systems senior director Quinlan Lyte said: “The E-2D plays a critical part in battle management command and control.

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye has a new radar system, theatre missile defence capabilities, multi-sensor integration, and a Northrop Grumman Navigation Systems tactical glass cockpit.
