The US Navy has awarded two contracts to BAE Systems to integrate and sustain critical communications systems for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD).

BAE will provide support for the command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C5ISR) solutions across military vehicles and operations centres.

The two single-award indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contracts have a value of more than $150m.

Work includes providing support services for mobile, fixed-base stations, a range of fixed and rotary wing air platforms, as well as large command centres used worldwide.

Under the first contract known as LCS CONUS, BAE will offer lifecycle sustainment for military and commercial based communications platforms for a five-year period.

“Our engineers specialise in providing custom, tailor-made C5ISR solutions to help close communications capability gaps for the US military.”

The $83m contract covers platforms that are deployed within the US and overseas, and support the Navy, Special Operations Forces, Homeland Security, in addition to other Department of Defense (DoD) and non-defence agencies.

The second $68m, five-year IDIQ contract will see the company deliver integration and production services for C5ISR systems installed on small and large militarised vehicles and air-based assets.

BAE Systems integrated defence solutions business vice-president and general manager Mark Keeler said: “Our engineers specialise in providing custom, tailor-made C5ISR solutions to help close communications capability gaps for the US military.

“BAE Systems takes pride in keeping the lines of communication open for those on the front lines of national security.”

Work on the contract will primarily be carried out within NAWCAD’s Special Communications Mission Solutions Division’s production facility at St Inigoes in Maryland, and Jacksonville, Florida.

The company’s work at Jacksonville will provide direct support to the local Fleet Readiness Center (FRC).
