BAE Systems has started working on previously awarded contracts under the Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP) in the UK.

The company joined a team that has been tasked with delivering the five-year FMSP alongside the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the Royal Navy.

Earlier this year, BAE Systems secured two contracts under the programme thereby retaining its key role of supporting the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Naval Base. These contract works commenced on 1 October 2021.

Under one of the contracts, the company will continue to deliver ship asset management, repair and maintenance services for the entire Portsmouth flotilla.

Meanwhile, BAE Systems’ joint venture with KBR, named KBS Maritime, will deliver technology-led and data-driven facilities management and dockside services at the base.

BAE Systems Maritime Services business warship support director Jon Pearson said: “Our strong past performance and our ability to deliver the Royal Navy’s future requirements were instrumental in winning the two largest Portsmouth FMSP contracts.

“Under previous contracts we’ve helped the MoD transform Portsmouth Naval Base, delivering major infrastructure improvements and reducing carbon emissions by 65% over the last 15 years, while at the same time improving the availability of the Royal Navy’s warships.

“Under FMSP, we will continue to transform to meet the Royal Navy’s evolving requirements and deliver with the same pride and emphasis on performance, innovation and availability.”

BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce recently secured two £85m contracts to begin design work on the UK Royal Navy’s new submarine class.
