BAE Systems has secured a prime position on a $212m contract awarded by the US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) to integrate and sustain its critical communication systems.

Under the terms of the contract, BAE Systems Intelligence & Security will be responsible for the designing, acquiring, integrating, and testing of radio systems for newly constructed guided-missile destroyers (DDG) and other ships of the navy and Coast Guard.

Separately, NAWCAD awarded a $104.7m contract to BAE Systems for engineering and technical services.

These services will support production, lifetime support, and in-service engineering for the C5ISR systems on the US Navy surface combatants and at associated shore sites.

The integration work will be carried out aboard Arleigh Burke-class DDGs (DDG 51 Class) and guided-missile cruisers (CG 47 Class).

BAE Systems Integrated Defense Solutions business vice-president and general manager Mark Keeler said: “Maintaining reliable lines of communication and situational awareness for those at the forefront of national security is a mission-critical priority for BAE Systems and our customers.

In November 2017, the navy awarded a contract to DRS Technologies Canada to deliver four additional integrated voice communications systems (IVCS) for the Aegis cruisers and destroyers.
