BAE Systems has secured a $188.2m contract to provide critical large-scale system engineering to the US Navy’s AEGIS Technical Representative (AEGIS TECHREP) organisation.

Under the five-year contract, AEGIS TECHREP will receive system engineering, integration, and testing expertise for the AEGIS Weapons and Combat Systems on US Navy surface combatant ships.

The navy awarded the order to BAE Systems under the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center’s Chief Information Officer–Solutions and Partners 3 (CIO-SP3) government-wide acquisition contract.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity CIO-SP3 contract is intended to provide information technology solutions and services.

BAE Systems Integrated Defense Solutions business vice-president and general manager Mark Keeler said: “BAE Systems personnel have worked side-by-side with navy sailors and civilians for nearly 40 years to strengthen and modernise the fleet of AEGIS-equipped surface ships.

“Our team brings a wealth of AEGIS combat system expertise with the agility, innovation, and technical acumen to ensure the US Navy has the safe and effective combat capability it needs to meet mission objectives.”

As part of the AEGIS contract, BAE Systems will provide on-site leadership and systems engineering to navy acquisition managers to validate total ship combat design at sites located in Mt Laurel in New Jersey, Bath in Maine, and Pascagoula in Mississippi.

Other services to be provided include logistics, cybersecurity, production, acquisition, and waterfront support to upgrade and maintain the development of AEGIS Combat System capabilities.

Last month, BAE Systems won a prime position on a $212m contract awarded by the US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) to integrate and sustain its critical communication systems.
