Alion Science and Technology has secured a $87m task order to provide technical analysis for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Deputy Commander for Surface Warfare (SEA 21).

SEA 21 serves as NAVSEA’s Director for Surface Ship Maintenance and Modernization. It is a dedicated life cycle management organisation for the US Navy’s in-service surface ships.

In addition, SEA 21 is responsible for managing critical modernisation, maintenance, training and inactivation programmes.

Serco has been selected as a primary subcontractor on this contract.

The contract was awarded under the Department of Defense Information Analysis Center’s (DoD IAC) multiple-award contract (MAC) vehicle.

The US Air Force’s (USAF) 774th Enterprise Sourcing Squadron (ESS), part of the US Air Force Installation Contracting Center (AFICC), awards these DoD IAC MAC task orders through a competitive process.

Alion Live, Virtual and Constructive Solutions Group senior vice-president and general manager Glenn Goodman said: “The Alion/Serco team has an exceptional understanding of the SEA21 programme and the Integrated Data Environment (IDE) requirements.

“With the knowledge and experience this team brings, we are able to develop new tools and solutions that are specifically designed to increase efficiencies and drive process improvements.

“Alion will continue to provide uninterrupted technical services to NAVSEA 21 to support navy ship maintenance and modernisation for in-service ships throughout their lifecycle for continued warfighting capability to the fleet.”

Under the latest task order, Alion will provide SEA 21 with ‘research-based technological analysis’ for its weapon, Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E), and logistics.

It will also support the service delivery systems fitted on the service’s surface non-nuclear naval ships.

The US Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC) warfighters will use the analysis to properly ‘plan and integrate’ optimal technologies into future and already fielded warfighting platforms while ensuring mission relevancy.

Last June, Alion Science and Technology secured a $59m contract to support the enhancement of weapons systems for the US Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC).
