AAR has delivered the first P-8A Poseidon aircraft to the US Navy following completion of a planned overhaul, age exploration and inspection.

The aviation services company provided the maintenance and overhaul services for the aircraft under a seven-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract received from the navy last year.

The contract includes heavy depot airframe maintenance and year-round field support for the US fleet.

NAVAIR Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Program (PMA-290) programme manager captain Tony Rossi said: “Delivering a mission-ready aircraft means executing a successful maintenance-repair plan. Many thanks to the AAR team for a job well done.

“As expected, there have been no significant aircraft condition findings. The aircraft continues to fly anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare missions, humanitarian and search and rescue missions around the world, and it’s performing well.”

The overhaul was performed at AAR’s Indianapolis facility during the P-8A’s first Age Exploration Plan Depot (AEPD) visit, which is part of a systematic, scheduled maintenance requirement.

AAR P-8A programme manager William Patton said: “Our team is honoured to perform maintenance on the P-8A Poseidon for the US Navy and ensure its operational-readiness for the warfighter.

“With our vast experience in B737s and longstanding working relationship with military programmes, AAR’s P-8A programme has excelled in meeting strict government compliance standards and maintaining the quality of the aircraft.”

“As expected, there have been no significant aircraft condition findings.”

The company has previously performed service on the US Navy’s C-40, Clipper, Harrier Jet Sustainment, C-9 Nightingale and H60R fleets.

Manufactured by Boeing, the P-8A aircraft can be deployed in support of long-range anti-submarine warfare; anti-surface warfare; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

In addition, the aircraft can be used humanitarian and search-and-rescue missions. P-8A is also in-service with the Royal Australian Air Force.
