Bell Boeing wins $4.19bn contract for CMV-22B Osprey production work
Bell Boeing was awarded a $4.19bn contract modification for the production and delivery of CMV-22B Osprey aircraft, which are a variant of the MV-22B unit.
The multi-year, fixed-price-incentive-fee deal has been awarded to the Bell Boeing Joint Program Office in Amarillo, Texas, and represents a modification to the previously awarded V-22 tiltrotor aircraft advance acquisition contract.

Bell V-22 Programme vice-president Chris Gehler said: “Bell Boeing is pleased to extend production of the V-22, supporting our warfighters with one of the most versatile and in-demand platforms in the US arsenal.
“This multi-year production contract provides programme production stability through at least 2024.”
US awards $450m contract for MMSC production for Saudi Arabia
The US Government awarded a new $450m contract to Lockheed Martin for the production of multi-mission surface combatants (MMSC) for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Lockheed Martin will be responsible for carrying out detailed design and planning works for the construction of four MMSCs under the undefinitised contract action (UCA) award.

USS Coronado and VX 1 conclude IOT&E for US Navy’s MQ-8C Fire Scout
The US Navy’s Independence-class littoral combat ship (LCS) USS Coronado (LCS 4) and the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 completed the first comprehensive initial operational test and evaluation (IOT&E) of the MQ-8C Fire Scout unmanned helicopter.
Results from the IOT&E will be used by decision makers to identify ways of integrating the newest MQ-8C Fire Scout aircraft with the navy’s LCS units and other assets.
The unmanned helicopter carried out a wide range of mission scenarios on-board the USS Coronado off the Southern Californian coast during the test programme, which demonstrated a connection between the surface and aviation platforms.
DLT wins $379m US Navy contract to deliver Oracle software
Technology company DLT Solutions secured a new contract, valued at more than $379m, for the provision of Oracle software and related services to the US Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC).
The indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract has been awarded for a period of five years with an Unlimited License Agreement (ULA) and Catalog.

British Royal Navy pilots complete latest F-35 flight simulation tests
British Royal Navy pilots completed the latest set of simulator trials using the F-35 Lightning II flight simulator at BAE Systems site in Warton, Lancashire.
The £2m flight simulator was developed by BAE Systems and is set to be deployed by F-35 test pilots during the preparation of flight trials on-board the Royal Navy’s newest Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, later this year.
The F-35 / QEC Integration Simulator facility replicates the cockpit of the F-35 fighter jets, as well as the aircraft carriers’ flying control tower (FLYCO).
Australia to invest A$495m in Larrakeyah Defence Precinct projects
The Australian Department of Defence approved a A$495m ($364.04m) investment for the establishment of two new facilities at the Larrakeyah Defence Precinct in the Northern Territory.
Australia’s Larrakeyah Defence Precinct is located approximately 2km west of the Darwin Central Business District (CBD) and comprises the Larrakeyah Barracks and HMAS Coonawarra.
The first project will see the Australian Government invest a total of A$272m ($200.04m) in new facilities in order to support naval operations across the north of the country.
British Royal Marines participate in Exercise Green Dragon in Dartmoor
The British Royal Marines carried out this year’s Exercise Green Dragon at Dartmoor in southern Devon, England, in order to test all of the logistics regiment’s components.
Green Dragon is a validation exercise designed to determine whether a logistics task group is capable and ready to be deployed with the lead commando group, anywhere worldwide and under any environmental condition.
Exercise Green Dragon involved the Commando Logistics Regiment (CLR), which deployed its varied units to test their ability to support the front line during the two-week-long exercise.
CACI wins $122m task order to develop advanced communications systems
CACI International secured a new task order for the development of rapid-response electronic communications systems for the US Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD).
The five-year task order has a ceiling value of $122m and was awarded by the US General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM).
CACI will conduct the full lifecycle development of interoperable systems and solutions to support the NAWCAD’s Special Communications Mission Solutions (SCMS) division under the deal, including rapid prototyping, fabrication, fielding and maintenance works.
Australian Navy receives second air warfare destroyer NUSHIP Brisbane
The Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) second air warfare destroyer (AWD), NUSHIP Brisbane, was officially delivered during a ceremony at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide.
NUSHIP Brisbane represents the second of three vessels that are currently being built for the RAN by the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance.
The alliance was established by the Australian Department of Defence, Raytheon Australia and ASC Shipbuilding with support from Navantia Australia.
Combat Ship Team submits proposal for Canadian Surface Combatants
Canada’s Combat Ship Team submitted its final proposal for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) project.
The proposal was submitted to prime contractor Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax, Nova Scotia, following four years of investment.
Companies involved in the Combat Ship Team include Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, CAE, MDA, L3 Technologies and Ultra Electronics.
