The Royal Australian Navy has acquired two Amphibious Assault Ships (LHDs), the HMAS Canberra and the HMAS Adelaide. Multiple seawater system components on-board the two vessels have been subject to an unsatisfactory level of corrosion, having potential adverse effects on equipment performance and reliability.
Rubicon Associates was engaged to support the clients Asset Integrity Management System by performing an independent LHD Seawater Systems corrosion survey to determine the extent and the seriousness of the corrosion.
The general scope of work involved:
- Performing a thorough physical survey of all the seawater system components on-board the two LHDs
- Reporting on findings and provide details of the nature and extent of the corrosion
- Advising the Commonwealth on appropriate remedial actions
The successfully delivery of this project demonstrates Rubicon Associates’ ability to accurately assess a client’s asset, evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of its function and then ensure its fit for service condition is maintained.
