ACPBs were commissioned and built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) to provide naval support for civilian authorities in missions such as fisheries protection, custom patrols and illegal immigration protection. Rubicon Associates was contracted to assist in reviewing the current fuel system configuration onboard the ACPBs. Additionally, Rubicon Associates reviewed the requirements related to spray tape and shields in the engine room, and provided advice on which engine fuel line shielding method to employ.
The scope was to:
- Review available documentation and stakeholder correspondence regarding the fuel system
- Identify relevant RAN, IMO and Classification Society Rules and Regulations as well as other standards relating to the fuel system
- Assess the level of compliance of the current fuel system configuration with the applicable standards and provide advice on system modifications
- Consider requirements related to spray tape and shields in the engine room and provide advice on best practice regarding the systems and application of type approved products
By assessing the level of compliance of the current fuel system configuration with applicable standards, Rubicon Associates was able to successfully offer advice regarding the current engine room fuel system configuration, and provide valuable recommendations for modifications and future actions. Engine fuel line shielding methods were comprehensively reviewed and suitable type approved products were identified. Our advice allowed ACPB SPO to implement improved maintenance procedures.
