The Chilean shipyard Astilleros y Maestranzas de la Armada (ASMAR) and SENER have signed an agreement for the reactivation of the licenses of FORAN that were deactivated after the earthquake and tsunami of February 2010, with devastating consequences in the shipyard in Talcahuano.

The first agreement between SENER and ASMAR for the use of the shipbuilding CAD/CAM system FORAN in the Chilean shipyard was signed in 1996, in Valparaiso. Since then, the shipyard has been using FORAN for the design and production of all kind of ships, including naval vessels – offshore patrol vessels, general service crafts (LSG), patrol boats and landing crafts – as well as commercial, oceanographic and fishing vessels.

“FORAN is the CAD/CAM system used by ASMAR for the development of the detail engineering projects. The system guarantees a smooth integration of the virtual model of the ship in order to optimise the design” said Roberto Urrutia Valenzuela, Lieutenant Commander, chief of the marine design department, ASMAR Talcahuano.
