Ship helicopter operating limits (SHOL) have been developed by Prism Defence for the Swedish armed forces’ A109 light utility helicopter aboard HMS Carlskrona, with final testing conducted in hot conditions in the Gulf of Aden.

This last phase of the trial was part of Prism’s support to the Swedish armed forces’ ambitious schedule to develop an embarked naval aviation capability in less than six months to support Swedish naval participation in the European Union Task Force engaged in anti-piracy operations. Prism Defence personnel were instrumental in the development and conduct of the flight test program, and the training of Swedish air force pilots and the ship’s deck, bridge and operations teams.

Prism also successfully completed an operational readiness evaluation of the ship’s aviation capability in-theatre as the final step in the development of a safe and effective embarked helicopter capability.
